Rustic Countryside Wedding at Wedderlie House in the Scottish Borders | Kate & John

Rustic Wedderlie House Wedding Photography

Kate and John tied the knot at Wedderlie House, a new and exclusive wedding venue set in the Scottish Borders. This secluded 50-acre estate is home to unrivalled views, charming function spaces and the most beautiful grounds. It really is a photographer’s dream and upon arrival, I just knew K + J were going to be utterly spoilt for backdrops.

Everything about Kate and John’s relaxed Scottish countryside wedding was memorable – from the funfair games to the dreamy styling and details. The couple tied the knot on a summer’s day in July, and despite the unpredictable Scottish weather deciding not to play ball, the rain certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. We were fortunate enough to still make the most of the grounds and gardens on offer at Wedderlie House, capturing some gorgeous couple portraits of the newlyweds, as well as their bridal party.

With plenty of accommodation at Wedderlie House, the couple and their bridal party were able to spend the morning getting ready at the wedding venue. The bride and her team of bridesmaids carried the most beautiful bouquets, which were brimming with wildflowers that looked as if they had been handpicked from the garden. The couple’s florist, Verde Flowers, had actually grown the blooms as well as creating the bouquets, using lots of blue and purple accents to tie their colour scheme together.

Ahead of Kate and John’s humanist ceremony, I captured an emotional first look with the bride and her father – a moment which always means the world to document and is often irreplaceable. The Stables were decorated with handfuls of foliage and fairy lights galore with pretty posies attached to the aisle chairs. Following their humanist ceremony, the couple’s guests gathered to create an epic confetti tunnel.

There are usually a spare couple of hours in between the ceremony and wedding breakfast, but Kate and John made sure their guests were having a brilliant time. The couple wanted their celebration to be filled with fun vibes, opting for mini golf (an activity they had always loved doing on dates) table football and funfair games that went down an absolute treat with their friends and family.

The garden marquee at Wedderlie House was a charming setting for Kate and John to wine, dine and celebrate with their favourite people. They decorated the blank canvas space with colourful bunting, floral table stationery and jars brimming with blooms. It was a Pinterest-worthy set-up! The speeches were followed by night of laughing, singing and dancing. It truly was a day to remember, and it was an utter pleasure to be able to capture K + J’s wedding day at Wedderlie House in the Scottish Borders.
